The Wall Street Reform Act
The U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate both have passed comprehensive legislation to restructure the nation’s financial services industry. Included in both bills are provisions that establish a new Consumer Financial Protection Agency, impose risk retention standards on mortgage lenders, and establish standard underwriting criteria for mortgage loans. The House and Senate will enter into a House-Senate Conference to negotiate their differences in June 2010 and Congress is expected to pass the final legislation the summer of 2010.
